Corporation Road to get a new road side park - Nammaku Naame Scheme

On Wednesday evening, a massive fire broke out at the Perungudi waste yard. To put out the fire, fire engines and water trucks arrived on the scene. So far, the smoke has extended up to a 6-kilometer radius, affecting the neighbourhoods of Velachery and the surrounding areas.

On 125 acres, the dump includes around 3.63 million cubic metres of legacy garbage. Another 200 acres, adjacent to marshes, is used for trash processing and daily waste dumping. Every day, about 2,000 tonnes of wet trash are dumped there.
