Classrooms turned into competition halls
From morning through the closing ceremony, BVM Global’s classrooms and shared spaces buzzed with quiet intensity. Young competitors rotated through their rounds while families and trainers looked on, with many remarking on the composure the children showed during a demanding schedule of games.
School leaders described the championship as part of a wider commitment to all-round learning — giving pupils room to build confidence, reasoning ability, and leadership outside the usual timetable.
Mind sport on the board
Chess rewards foresight, calm under pressure, and the capacity to anticipate an opponent’s plan — qualities schools are keen to nurture alongside formal academics.
Talent from across the state
Entrants travelled from multiple districts, making a Perungudi school the unlikely centre of a statewide junior chess weekend.
High local registration
BVM Global was among the institutions with the heaviest sign-ups across every age bracket, and its own pupils took part with visible energy and discipline.
Prize distribution honours top performers
At the valedictory session, organisers presented 175 cups, trophies, medals, and special awards to stand-out players in each section. The stage carried official branding, including TNSCA approval number CO-35/CHE/26-27 and CDCA event code CDCA-JUN-006/26-27.
One of the afternoon’s standout results came in the Under-15 section, where L Nivedita claimed first place. She received her trophy from Mr. Jitto Ipe George, Associate Vice President and Branch Head at Federal Bank’s Adyar branch.
Organisers and school thank partners
BVM Global School praised Saturangam 360 Academy for the smooth conduct of the event. The organising team and school staff were also acknowledged for on-ground coordination and for promoting chess as a serious extracurricular pursuit.
Parents and coaches who spoke at the venue described the championship as a welcome step toward making competitive chess more accessible to children who may not regularly travel to central Chennai for rated tournaments.
A win for south Chennai’s school sports scene
Along the OMR corridor, families often look for schools that balance strong academics with meaningful activities beyond the classroom. Hosting a state-level chess meet on a neighbourhood campus — rather than only in the city centre — gives south Chennai pupils a chance to compete seriously without a long cross-city journey.
For communities around Seevaram, Corporation Road, and the stretch behind Perungudi D Mart, the event also highlighted what local schools can offer in student achievement away from examination halls.

For OMR residents: The third Tamil Nadu State Level Children’s Chess Tournament at BVM Global, Perungudi, underlines how schools along the corridor are stepping up as venues for statewide competitions — alongside the IT parks and apartment communities the road is better known for.
