OMR Apartment Community Leads by Example
Plaza Opulance residents set up and maintain water bowls for birds and stray animals, creating a practical summer model that other neighborhoods can replicate quickly.
As Chennai heat intensifies, residents of Plaza Opulance along OMR have taken a direct, local step to support voiceless beings during peak summer days.
The residence association has placed cemented water bowls along compound walls so crows, pigeons, squirrels, cats, and other small animals can access clean drinking water through the day.
Materials support came from Water For Voiceless (WFV), while residents assumed daily maintenance responsibility, including refill and hygiene checks.
What matters here is not scale. It is intent, speed, and consistent community action.
Why this small action matters now
With rapid urbanisation across OMR, natural water points are reducing. During summer, birds and small animals increasingly depend on human created hydration points to survive.
Residents including Elanchezian, Ilamathi, Jayaraj, Venkatraj, and Anbuchezian were acknowledged for supporting and sustaining this initiative.
A replicable model for every street
This is not a one time gesture. It is a practical model that apartments, independent homes, and office campuses can implement with minimal effort.
- Place a stable bowl in a shaded outdoor location.
- Refill daily with clean water.
- Clean regularly to maintain hygiene.
- Encourage neighbors to cover nearby stretches.
